BREWTREE.COMBulk-Head & Bulk-Head With Ball Valve
Instructions
Thank you for purchasing a BREWTREE bulkhead/bulkhead & ball valve, sure to provide years of dedicated service. The following instructions are necessary for proper leak free installation.
To Install:
You basically want to make a 13/16" hole in your keg wall - in a place the size of the washer that is flat, that way you can actually screw the bulkhead into the keg wall and effectively sandwhich the keg between the two gaskets. Make sure the hole does not have any burrs that could cut the orings. You can clean the hole with a dremel grinding stone if you have one.
Make sure the nipple part of the fitting is wrapped sufficiently with teflon tape, this will prevent any liquid from escaping through the threads.
That said, you will screw the standard bulkhead into the keg wall, such that the brass nut, a washer and an oring are on the outside of your keg (i.e. from keg wall it goes --->Oring--->washer--->brass nut), and the oring is compressed to within 1/16" of the edge of the washer. The bulkhead should be screwed into the keg wall squarely, so the washer can provide even pressure against the oring to compress it forming a tight seal.
Now, you will install the parts on the inside of the keg, starting with the parts closest to the keg wall. Oring-->Washer-->stainless coupling. This is the same as the outside of the keg, except on the outside of the keg you have a brass nut.
Tighten the coupling to compress the oring to within 1/16" of the washer edge, and check to see it is seated squarely against the keg wall. Make sure to hold the bulkhead on the outside of the keg while doing this, to prevent the fitting from spinning. If it spins, it can damage the gasket, voiding the warranty and guaranteeing a leak. We sell replacement gaskets on our website plumbing dept.
Now, install a valve on the end of the bulkhead (outside of the keg), making sure the bulkhead threads have sufficient teflon tape on them to seal the gap between male threads of the bulkhead, and female threads of the valve.
Close the valve, and fill the keg up with water. Check for leaks. If it is leaking (weeping) from the threads, then you will need to dissassemble and reapply teflon tape to the threads and repeat the process above until there are no more leaks.
If you installed the bulkhead correctly, there should be no leakage from the orings. If you want, you could apply a small amount of vegetable oil to the oring before installing, to help seal it, but I don't know if that is really necessary.
The 3" dial thermometer bulkhead is basically the same installation as above, except you have a nut on the inside to tighten - that pushes the washer against the oring and oring against the keg wall.
